charlotte_outline.gif"Few people are such artists who are internally driven by the highest standards of their work and can speak to their public in the most compelling way... Charlotte Blake Alston is a great artist."
Phyllis B. Susen, Carnegie Hall

s.gif (290 bytes)peaking her stories with exuberant energy, Charlotte beckons and holds you like an amusement park ride. Time is suspended as audiences soar on every word, song, rap, inflection, gesture or drum beat. Her stories are enhanced by the sounds of traditional instruments including djembe, berimau, nkoning, mbira and the 21-stringed kora.

Sharing a rich repertoire of stories, songs and poetry, Charlotte models her role after that of the Griot, the keeper of the traditions and stories in African villages. Over the years, her repertoire has expanded to include stories from the African-American experience, songs, educational raps, monologues, poetry and dramatic impersonations of such luminaries as Sojourner Truth and Harriet Tubman.

A former teacher, she uses her craft as a means of communication and education, of fostering an appreciation and understanding of differences among people, and of providing active, joyful entertainment in the best sense of the word to both young and adult audiences.
